2021 April – Christies Beach to Seaford.

Day 3: In terms of coastal walking Seaford is only 10km away from the Christies Beach Hotel and should take a sensible walker about 2.5 hours.

So was unusual for us to cover over 100km and take 38 hours to get there!

As we walked into the Christies Beach Hotel on Saturday night we were expecting two cold beers and a room for the night. One out of two is bad!

We spent the next hour chasing down every hotel, air bnb, caravan park and hostel in a 30 km radius for a vacancy. No luck. Apparently everyone else knows that you can’t get accommodation in Adelaide over the Easter long weekend, just not us.

We asked if the hotel had a large cupboard we could sleep in and even considered the beach. It was looking quite desperate.

Finally we found the last room at the Adelaide Inn in North Adelaide. WE WILL TAKE IT. And so ubered back to the big smoke, whizzing up the highway and past the grassy knoll where my glasses lay.

Prudence did come late, and not wanting to repeat the events of Sunday night, we secured a second night when checking in.  The relief of having a safe bed and a bite to eat saw us fall into a long warm slumber.

Easter Sunday arrived with cooler temperatures and the promise of one whole uninterrupted day for new adventures. For us it was to be an exploration of the parks of Central Adelaide. Intending to ‘wing it’ we were delighted to find that someone had already done the hard work. The Park Lands Trail mapped and marked an 18 km circumnavigation of the 27 individual and unique parks.

I briefly lived in Adelaide many years ago and am surprised that I didn’t know that horses lived and grazed in the parklands!

The 18km trail took us through a diverse range of habitats. Grasslands, native bush, wetlands, verdant playgrounds.  The photos below only capture a small range of the landscapes we passed through.

One terrain we were familiar with popped onto view near the Botanica Gardens. It is never too early in the day to support Australian industry.

The tasting room was unusual. We had an interesting time tasting a wide variety of wines and listening to the enthusiastic staff about the differences.

Some of the wines we tasted and liked are pictured below. Will definitely chase up the Hughes and Hughes sav blanc when we get home.

We spent our second night in the Adelaide Inn sorting out our washing and food.

On Tuesday morning we set of for the 2km stroll to the beautiful Adelaide Station to travel to seaford and resume our original journey and new adventures.

Catching the 8.35 train to Seaford.
