Sunday 29th December 2024
It is not rejuvenating to spend most of the night with an inflamed uvula and unable to breathe, swallow, or sneeze without razorblades in the throat.
Worse when your nose is dripping, and you only have one man sized hanky for company. You will recall from yesterday’s post, the toilet paper is currently being rationed.
But, we only had one more day here, so I dragged myself into the shower and, after two cups of tea, and at the very late hour of 11am headed towards the castle.
Castelo do Sao Jorge (St Georges Castle)
Famous landmark and occupied fortress since 600BCE

Honest Greens
We had planned on going out for dinner for our last night in Lisbon, but after walking to downtown and climbing the hill to the castle I didn’t have the energy to return to our hostel AND come back out again. I knew that I would collapse, so we decided to indugle in a late lunch near the waterfront.
After a bit of googling, we settled on Honest Greens that we had walked paste the previous day – just near the pink street. What a golden find. the food was delicious with about 70% vegan or vegetarian options.

It cost about 34 Euros for two large meals and associated drinks. What is more, they have multiple outlets in Portugal and Spain, and are opening in London soon. Olivia thinks she might try to get a job there when she returns from Canada!

Money Museum
Now I was tired, breathless and full. We had one more place to visit before returning home – the museum of money. We had walked past last night and noted that it was free to go in.
Once we had passed through the security scanners we headed around for a look. Oh look! it is us!

The first flight of stairs nearly killed me, and an evesdropping guard opened the lift so that I could be transported to the next level.
I took the poor, old, sick lady routine a bit far when I found a portable chair and dragged it around behind me so that I could sit to read the exhibits and not pass out.

After that we were done. As we headed towards the train station Olivia made a detour to a vegan patisserie to buy some famous Portugese tarts. Very tasty, although I really should have samples the real thing – just to be sure!

We caught the train home and settled in for a quiet night, sorting and packing and sneezing and sleeping. Tomorrow, we leave for Morocco.
