Morning walk along the lake

Now almost completely over our jetlag, we decided to head off for a bracing 2-hour walk from our hotel to the next bay, which has the beaches of Huskvana.  (We headed right toward the icon marked Brocolli Tree).

The view back toward Jonkoping.

The Match Factory

After a bite to eat and a quick cuppa we headed off to the other side of town. We had an amazing time wandering through the historic working district of Jonkoping.  Learning that infact Sweden is responsible for the invention of the safety match and, for over a century, the most prolific manufacturer of matches.

The exhibit described the development of match production from a lethal home industry to industrial level manufacturing.

The shopping and living district of Jonkoping.

Not jet ready to return to our hotel and settle in for the night, we did more walking.  We still wanted to know where all the people were.  It turns out the solution could be they are at home in their medium-density housing, hiding from the heat, and waiting to emerge at 5pm for drinks and late dinner.

Debbie decided to try out the hotel sauna. 20 minutes later you couldn’t distinguish the sarong.

Tomorrow, we board the intercity bus for 3 hours to investigate the industrial city of Norrkoping. That will give us plenty of time to  brush up on our Swedish.

We are getting better at pronouncing Swedish place names, and that k is ‘ishk’.  For example, Norrkoping is pronounced Norsh-kaping.

At least Stockholm is Stockholm! Tack!
