We decided to break up the journey between Stockholm and Sundsvall by visiting the university town of Uppsala.
We arrived on a slow local train at 11:00am and were due to depart on the faster intercity train at 15:11pm. Just enough time to get the vibe of the place.

Again, we asked at the Elite Hotel if we could leave our backpacks, and they were happy to oblige. I’m not sure that travellers would receive the same treatment in Australia.
We headed off towards the university buildings.
It was a shame that the Linnaeus Museum, built in the home of Carl Linnaeus, was shut when we were there.

We walked through the manicured gardens and grounds before heading further out to the Life Sciences faculty and the Museum of Natural History.

What fun! Spread across two building, they had thousands of specimens of Swedish and international fossils, animals, minerals, bones and dissections.
I think the selection of images below, demonstrates the range of weird and wonderful items they had in store.

Although we could see that the city stretched for miles, like most old towns the key buildings are all located within walking distance of the train stations.
We only had a few hours, but it was enough. There were a few people around, but a university town on a Sunday during semester holidays, can be a very quiet place.
