Bergen – Gunvangen – Flam – Oslo
28C and very hot / 23,367 steps / 17.1km
Waiting in Gudvangen
We left Bergen at the respectable time of 11:10, on a comfortable bus to Gudvanden, where cruises through the Fijords depart. We arrived just after 2pm and had a few hours to spare until our cruise at 5:30pm.

After enjoying a bit of a snack, we headed off for a trail walk to gain some elevation and better views. The elevation was hard going – I think my heart rate peaked at 160 bpm, and I’m sure I sweated so much that my muscles resembled moose jerky by the end!

The Fijord Cruise
We selected the 5:30pm -7:30pm cruise with the reasoning that with the tourists hoping to be in Oslo or Bergin for dinner, it would be quiet. it paid off. There were a few passengers, but we were able to take in the view in peace.
Along the way we saw small communities, waterfalls and stunning mountains plunging into the water. Lots of people were camping by the waters edge, clearly having kyaked up the fijord with their gear and setting up with tents and campfires. i was attacked by a march fly on our hike, so hoping they are able to keep the critters at bay.

Arriving at Flam (pronoumed Fluum)
After the cruise we had many hours to kill before our bus arrived at 12:15am in the morning. We had opted for the overnight bus as the alternative was to leave Flam 15 minutes after the cruise arrived. We wanted to get more of the feel of the place. Perhaps I overestimated the size fo the place. 350,000 visitors each year but only 350 inhabitants. We enjoyed an overprice meal at the cafe for a few hours, but still had many to go.
Oh well, better cross that dip in a Norgegian Fijord off the bucket list.
