Livorno and the Leaning Tower

Visiting the coastal town of Livorno

For most people, the wonder was “what are you doing for four days in Pisa?” We kind of agreed.

So we decided to have a day out and head to the coast. We boarded the number 10 bus towards the Marina di Pisa, but decided to stay on and visit Livorno and drop back past Marina di Pisa on the way home. We packed bathers and sunscreen and optimism.

The blue flag was our destination – Marina di Pisa.

Livorno was a pretty little coastal town. We just wandered around, taking in the waterfront, a vegan hamburger and chips, a walk up to the old fort and along the beautifully paved boardwalk.

We had lunch at the Happy Sailor, more burgers and chips. After, although warmish, the neither the weather nor the water ever seemed inviting enough to get changed and dive in.

Although the Number 10 bus took us from Pisa to Livorno, it couldn’t take us back. We would have to return to Pisa and then head back to the coats. Strange. So we called it a day and headed to the station and then home. A lovely, quiet, simple day.

A day at the Pisa Historical Site

The Leaning Tower is only one of five important buildings on the historical site.

We purchased an E11 ticket that entitled us to visit all of them, excluding climbing the tower.

The Baptistry was interesting to see. No Sistine Chapel ceiling, but at one point,the usher stepped into the very centre and started singing notes to demonstate the excellent acustics of the building.
