Lily Creek Walking Circuit
Knowing that the day ahead would require a lot of sitting, we headed off to burn another 20,000 steps. We explored an old cemetery before chancing upon the Lily Creek Walk. The full loop is 8.8km, but we only needed part of that to stretch our legs.
The weather was starting to look wet so it was definitely time to get moving south.
A Long Day
Our Uber arrived at 12pm to take us the 8km to Cairns Airport. We had an hour in the Qantas Club before boarding the flight to Sydney.
On arrival at Gate 11 in Sydney we were confronted with a very elderly lady leaning against a cardboard stand for support. Needless to say – not much support given. We helped her upright and then offered to help her and friend to their next gate lounge. They were heading home to Mildura. Well, their plane wasn’t for 90 minutes so we turned them around and took them to the Sydney Lounge. Ann, well travelled and the driving force behind the trip, downed two champagnes. Val, not one to venture far, looked perpetually nervous, and indulged in a light beer.
After having a lovely chat about their lives, and loves and adventures I took them to their departure lounge and wished them safe travels. We still had another hour to kill before our evening flight to Hobart. I have taken overseas flights that are quicker than this! We arrived home by 10:30pm.
Reflection on Cairns
Cairns was a great destination for a week’s holiday, but I don’t think I will plan on returning anytime soon. I feel that we visited most of the attractions in the area, and given the lack of opportunities to swim would prefer a location with more friendly natives!
It was easy to get around the town, but heading to the suburbs or nearby towns definately requires hiring a car.
